In addition to our partnership with every farmer-member of the JMCC Farmers’ Collective, JMCC has established an excellent relationship with the Caribbean Toxicology (CARITOX) Laboratory at the University of the West Indies’ Mona campus in Jamaica. UWI Mona is a world leader in the controlled growing of specific strains of marijuana to identify their DNA profiles, thereby providing cannabis plants that can be tested to determine how the different strains interact with the human body. UWI also works to identify best practices for growing marijuana as well as developing products for use in the treatment of symptoms of various illnesses and diseases.
CARITOX is an independent toxicology unit in UWI's Department of Medical Sciences. CARITOX offers comprehensive testing in the areas of clinical, forensic, sports, food and environmental toxicology, as well as a full range of cannabis toxicology testing to international standards. CARITOX utilizes state-of-the-art instrumentation including ultra-high performance liquid chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC/MS/MS) and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) for the analysis of each individual drug.
The unit includes a full staff complement of trained chemists and toxicologists with years of research, industry knowledge and expertise.
